Advantages of Honeywell Heaters

One of the most well-known manufacturers of space heaters is Honeywell, and many of their space heaters are useful in a variety of settings. Honeywell heaters are frequently used in both homes and offices, and their models are reasonably priced and widely available. Below is a look at few of the advantages of Honeywell heaters.

Perhaps one of the most important advantages of Honeywell heaters is that they usually have so many safety features that they can become rather redundant. In addition to the automatic shut off if the unit is tipped over, some Honeywell heater models will automatically shut off if the unit is bumped or jarred. Most Honeywell heaters are cool to the touch on the outside, and some Honeywell models even have a childproof knob to prevent curious fingers from adjusting the heater. Honeywell heaters are designed for specialty, and they function admirably for their intended purposes. With their wide availability, they can present an excellent alternative to central heat and to other brands, but not all Honeywell heaters are perfect. There are several disadvantages of Honeywell heaters that should be considered.

Not as Effective as Comparable Models

Many buyers report that the Honeywell models do not emit as much heat as comparable models from other brands. A buyer who still wishes to purchase the Honeywell model may wish to purchase a model with slightly more power than they might purchase from a competing brand. If the unit is to be used for a small confined space (like under a desk), the reduced effectiveness may help to keep the area from overheating. In larger rooms or open spaces, the Honeywell may not be effective in keeping the space comfortable.

Sensitive Thermostats

One selling point for Honeywell heaters is that the thermostats on their heater models are more sensitive than their competitors. Where their competitors guarantee that the temperature will remain within six degrees of the set temperature, Honeywell guarantees their temperatures will remain within three degrees of the set temperature. While this may seem to be an advantage, it can be annoying. When the room temperature is close to the set temperature, the unit turns off, but it turns back on less than two of three minutes later when the temperature drops. The constant on-again, off-again mode is frustrating for owners.

Thermostats Malfunction

On all units, customers reported having thermostat malfunctions, but this was especially true on the baseboard models. The baseboard models will sometimes automatically reset the temperature to the maximum setting, making the room incredibly uncomfortable. Sometimes the thermostat mistakes the room temperature for a temperature 5-10 degrees lower than the actual room temperature; this causes the unit to turn on and raise the heat in the room to uncomfortable levels. This is one of the important disadvantages of Honeywell heaters to keep in mind.

Some Models Have Problems with Overheating

Another of the disadvantage of Honeywell heaters is that several customers report that the unit will overheat after a few uses. Once the unit overheats, the heater is shut off automatically as a safety precaution and the owner cannot start the unit back up. Units with this flaw must be returned to the manufacturer, because the units are never able to start up again once they are afflicted with this problem.

Some Electrical Problems

Several customers have reported electrical problems in their Honeywell heater. Upon inspection, they have found sparks coming from the interior of the unit or from the plug. Some have found melted wiring on the inside of the unit or burn marks on the wall outlet. While there have been no reported instances of electrical fire, it is prudent to be cautious around the outlet when using a Honeywell heater. Owners should ensure that the outlet and wiring are up to date, and that there are no flammable materials (curtains, magazines, etc.) next to or below the outlet.

The Honeywell heaters may seem like excellent value for money, and they do greatly reduce the cost of electricity in homes that would normally use a central air system, but prospective buyers should consider the disadvantages of Honeywell heaters before making a purchase.
